splash and intro

I've created this journal to have a place to put all the book recommendations I can't seem to stop myself from making. I've loved books all my life and nothing pleases me more then to share a favorite author or novel with a friend and have them enjoy it as much as I have. Feel free to friend this journal to keep track of updates-- I won't be adding back, but all posts will be kept public in this journal. I also welcome any discussion or questions involving the books I'll be talking about, or anything else entirely, so leave comments and I'll be happy to chat with you.

IMPORTANT: I will do my best to make my reviews as spoiler-free as possible, but everyone has their own definitions of such (mine are stricter than most, so you should be safe.) Still, proceed at your own risk.

I'm perfectly willing to talk about plot points and such in detail in the comments, BUT if you intend to discuss something major, PLEASE WHITE IT OUT. This is not for me but as a courtesy to others who might happen to read it. If you do not know how to white out text, ask me first!

Navigational links of interest and other important information can be found through my userinfo.

Happy reading!

Top 5 Books of 2012

Posting this here for posterity purposes. Also, you never know, could come in handy someday - a masked bandit could threaten, brandishing a cutlass while gruffly demanding me to recall the title of a book I read in the year 2012 else they'll chop off my arm at the elbow. I'm just saying, best to be prepared.

2011 Read Books Booklist - My Top 5

So I've just about read 40 books in 2011—10 shy of that elusive goal of 50, but still not a shabby representation, considering I spent a lot of 2011 in total life-upheaval and/or glued to my television and/or glued to my computer. But of the 40 books I read this year, only 24 of them were new books to me (the rest were all comfort-driven re-reads) AND, of those 24, perhaps only 10 were ones I considered decent or above-average books. I don't know if this means that my standards are getting higher or the general quality of published works is getting lower: either way, it makes for a frustrating experience, trying to find things to read that are (A) living up to the hype, or (B) hidden gems.

Anyway, all that being said, here are my Top 5 Reads of 2011 (along with their actual publishing date)

[update] LibraryThing.com, Requests

It's still incomplete, but I've entered a good chunk of books (200 is the limit until I can upgrade the account, boo) in at my LibraryThing.com catalog. It's a cool website I'd recommend for anyone that's got a sizeable collection they want to keep track of. ^-^b I love the "shared books" cloud that shows you people who haved saved the same titles as you, and how many you have in common. I'm getting tons and tons of stuff to look up for my next trip to the library, all just from looking at catalogs with similar tastes to mine. *bouncy with glee* I love books. :D

Feel free to ask me questions about any of the books you can see in my catalog-- or even request a specific recommendation, I'm sure I'll be happy to oblige. Just drop me a comment to this post.
